SAG --  Successful Project Management – The Human Factor; by Teresa Hennig, Data Dynamics Northwest, Access MVP

As a consultant and solutions architect, one of my primary responsibilities is to elicit, understand, anticipate and incorporate (or prioritize) client needs. As developers, we have all experienced the challenges of responding to the dynamic changes in requests and infrastructure in conjunction with the pressures of meeting schedules and containing costs. This session will focus on Effective Project Management and Key Communication Skills that can turn conflicts into partnerships.

Teresa started using Access in 1997 and started her company as an independent consultant providing business and data management solutions.  Data Dynamics Northwest reflects Teresa’s dynamic personality and her innate ability to quickly grasp a situation and formulate a solution. With a strong background in business and project management, Teresa focuses on providing cost effective solutions tailored to meet her client’s needs. She loves Access’s rapid development environment and the ability to quickly create intuitive, user-friendly forms. One of her favorite aspects of being a consultant is having the opportunity to work with a wide variety of businesses, locally and around the world.  Key factors to Teresa’s success are her positive approach and her ability to get people to identify priorities and focus on common goals.

License Request Tracking System,  by Dan Gramer, Turner Construction Company
Dan has developed a License Request System that tracks user licenses and expiration dates so that managers can be notified about approaching renewals. Dan will be demonstrating his application and explaining some of the approaches that he considered and the reasons that he chose the techniques that he’s using. We’ll also explore how these concepts and techniques can be applied to other scenarios involving commitment tracking, scheduling, subscriptions and more. As with most projects, there are plenty of pending enhancements. Dan will be adding functionality to automate renewal notifications, so he’s interested in hearing your suggestions and experiences.
An added bonus of this presentation is that all of the data tables are actually lists on SharePoint, so we’ll get to see a practical working demo. But the same approach could easily be used with data stored in tables within Access or SQL Server.

Dan has 24 years of commercial construction experience throughout the Western United States and Canada.   As a manager of Integrated Building Solutions (BIM), Dan’s primary focus is on developing standards, establishing meaningful metrics, and spreading knowledge through training programs at Turner.
Dan’s broad range of construction experience ranging from estimating & project management to project systems lends to his role as a Manager within Turner’s Integrated Building Solutions group. He leverages technological advancement and implementation of policies and protocols to support model-based business practices. Dan’s approach has been a key factor in Turner’s rapidly accelerating adoption of BIM nationwide which includes over 500 projects, representing over $22 billion in work.  Notable projects in the Pacific Northwest include Nintendo of North America, Redmond Campus Extension, 1823 Terry (Aspira) in Seattle Washington, Harborview Inpatient Expansion Building and the Rental Car Facility at SeaTac airport. REVIEW:   FIVE STAR REVIEW!!!!

This book has extensive coverage of an area vital to Access developers and power users, by a very knowledgeable team, ably led by Teresa Hennig. It includes something more than an overview explaining new features of Access 2007. That is important because: many features are new and changed in Access 2007, much of what we do with VBA is automating and enhancing features we use manually via the user interface, and the new Office 2007 user interface can be overwhelming without a helping "hand up". Then the book covers VBA from the basics to in-depth advanced levels. It is a worthy successor to the Access 2003 VBA Programmer's Reference and, in my opinion, "raises the bar" for VBA books. I'll be using it as a reference in presentations to my Access user groups, as well as a handy reference for my own work. I recommend it to Access power users, as well as aspiring and working Access developers.

From My  Client ...
May 4, 2007

Teresa,      "This could not have been any truer!"

I also have time for my clients. Actually, I'm as passionate about my clients and their projects as I am about my groups. As a consultant, I am incredibly fortunate to get to work on projects from a wide spectrum of industries. Every project provides new challenges for finding ways to manage data, streamline and automate. Understanding my client's industries, operations and needs, I feel like I'm their partner and it is important to provide cost effective solutions. With the savings and benefits, my solutions typically pay for themselves in a matter of months. My biggest reward is knowing that I truly made a difference.

"I am EXTREMELY PROUD OF YOU and equally happy! WOW!!!"
